Plans revealed for Newco in Div1

So it’s official.

The SFA has made plans to move the goalposts of Scottish football to allow a Newco into the First Division.

The new set-up, ‘The Scottish Professional Football League’, will be formed for the start of the 2012/13 season but some of the changes will be forced through for the current season.

Now there are some changes that I’m actually pleased to see on there such as the new pyramid system that allows for relegation from/promotion to the Third Division and also an extra promotion place from the First Division into the SPL which will be decided by a play-off.

I feel these change are positive and will create more competition. What isn’t good for competition though is allowing a Newco access straight into a place high up on the football pyramid ahead of other teams who deserve it a lot more.

Current SFA rules would require for 3 years of audited financial accounts to be produced as part of an appliction for membership. How is this going to be met? Are the SFA just going to ignore there own rules?

These changes are to be approved by all SFL and SPL clubs within the next week. There is already plenty of clubs in the SPL and First Division who are set against allowing a Newco into the top two division in Scotland.

We can only hope now that there is objections from lower clubs as well to ensure we’re not changing rules to accomadate one club.

No to Newco to any league but the Third Division.

How can Sevco 5088 play EVEN in the 3rd division without 3 years of audited accounts?

I honestly have no idea, I would love someone at the SFA to explain how they can get around this rule. Its similar to the UEFA rule which means a Newco cannot play in Europe until they can produce 3 years of accounts.
