Sevco unable to inherit Rangers name

According to the BBC Charles Green’s company, Sevco 5088, won’t be able to change it’s name as planned to ‘The Rangers Football Club’

It seems any name change would need to be approved by the liquidators of the old club. BDO have been appointed as liquidators but won’t take over control of the club for some time.

A spokesperson for Companies House has said: “Sevco 5088 would not be able to apply to change its name to ‘The Rangers Football Club Ltd’ until either the original company is fully dissolved, a process which can take about a year to complete, or the receivers give the go-ahead for the name change to take place.

“From a regulations standpoint, once the receivers or the liquidators/administrators for the current PLC agree to a name change, Sevco 5088 could then apply to change its name to ‘The Rangers Football Club Ltd’.

“If they apply without following this procedure, systems are in place to flag up names which are too similar.”

No application for a name change has actually taken place yet, but it sounds as though any application would be thrown out or put on hold until BDO take control of the old club and start the liquidation process which could take some time.

Until then, lets all laugh at Sevco

So if they cant use the name, why are the SFA still calling them by that name….why not sevco 5088 ?

Sevco 5088 is the company name, much like Celtic FC has the company name Celtic Plc. I believe they can still can the football team something similar to Rangers FC but the name on official documents and financial statements will state Sevco 5088, for the forseeable future at least.

Why are they allowed to call themselves Sevco…sounds a bit too much like Tesco…perhaps that will be their ultimate name after all!
